@fabologist & @excessoriesexpert on regime

If caring is sharing then consider the following Q&A a thoughtful gesture from my dear friend @excessoriesexpert Elizabeth Savetsky and me. Skin care hacks to hero products, we share our beauty routines amidst the balancing act of raising babies and running households while blogging in the Big Apple.

ES: My hero products are the Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid in Pink, MAC Prep and Prime Highlighter in bright forecast, Clinique Kohl eyeliner pencil, Urban Decay Perversion Mascara, and Laura Geller blush. I can look pretty exhausted in the morning, so anything to brighten my under eye circles and add a bit of color to my face is welcomed. My everyday beauty routine takes 10 minutes. I don’t have more time than that. If I have less time, it’s just the MAC pen under my eyes and sunglasses.

AH: Yes! I, too, adhere to a 10-minute-maximum. Luckily, I find a freshly scrubbed face the most beautiful, so, to me, healthy skin takes top billing. I swear by Lash extensions (simplifies life) and a well shaped brow, particularly because I have narrow shaped eyes. My daily cosmetic routine is pretty mellow, consisting of Stilla Liquid Eyeliner in Jet Black, Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer and whatever lip gloss is at the bottom of my bag – usually Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment or Carmex, the latter an ode to my great grandfather.

ES: I’ll add a black cat eye with Urban Decay Perversion Eye Pen or I’ll do a dramatic smokey eye with the Urban Decay Naked Smoky eye kit. I love to add strip lashes from the drug store. I even use them during the day if I know I’m going to be photographed. Lashes for me are like high heels for the face. They just elevate the whole look. I only use Duo lash glue. It holds the best. I like Elite lashes in number 18 and I’ll use the brown ones for a more natural look. I also love a good contour for a night out and I find the Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit to be foolproof. For lip color, I love Laura Geller lipsticks. I’ll often mix a couple shades depending on the look I’m going for. A hot pink lip is my favorite!

AH: A good contour is dynamite! Yours are flawless. I use Lancome Le Duo Stick as my contour and highlighter because it is super simple to apply. In addition, for a night out, I might add a YSL Blur Primer to give skin a smooth, dewy glow, topped with Dior Nude Air for a natural finish to face. I usually keep a cat-eye and if I do lipstick, it’s matte red Chanel #97.

ES: I love when you do a red lip! So glam!

ES: Absolutely! I wish I had started younger. One of my best friends, Dr. Karen Hammerman, is a dermatologist and she has taught me so much about anti-aging products and treatments. I use Caudelie eye cream morning and night. I love the Glow products from Dr. Brandt – especially the overnight cream. I always always, always wash my make up off, no matter how tired I am. I’ve been religious about it since high school. Then I use a toner from Kiehls. It really makes all the difference for your pores! I’ll do an oxygen mask from Peter Thomas Roth twice a week and the Glossier Mega Greens mask once a week.

AH: Glossier is fantastic! You must try the Super serums – so good. I am also religious about washing my face AM and PM. I follow up with Cane & Austin Miracle Pads , Japanese Tatcha moisturizers, a Peter Thomas Roth eye serum and at night, a retinol night cream from my dermatologist. I highly recommend HydraFacials and never leave the house without Algenist Ultra Lightweight SPF 50.

ES: I’m not a huge perfume gal. I use my husband’s Arrid spray deodorant. I like to smell like him. However, a friend recently gave me the Elizabeth & James Nirvana fragrances and I’m thinking of adopting the Bourbon one as my personal fragrance. It’s rich and sultry. I’m a guys’ girl and I love the drinking whiskey with the boys. This fragrance represents that part of me, but it’s not too overpowering.

AH: I am never overly committed to one fragrance, it evolves with season. And like you, I love to share a scent with my husband. A woodsy, subtle Santal is my favorite. Atelier Cologne and Le Labo do it best. I also have Jo Malone and Hermes Les Jardins perfumes on hand – forever favorites!

ES: I joke that I’m allergic to fitness. I loathe both exercise and athleisure clothing. I live a very active life as a mom to two toddlers in the city, but over the past year I’ve succumbed to social pressures and started taking Barre classes and this other crazy class SLT, which is like reformer pilates on steroids. I hate every second of it, but I definitely see results and never regret going. If I’m having a busy week or on vacation, I won’t stress about missing the gym. I’m not obsessive about it, but when time allows, I’ll try to go 2-4 times a week. I also walk a TON in my everyday life.

AH: I am outdoorsy, so for me, nothing beats a jog in Central Park. The Reservoir provides a breathtaking run with a view (pun intended) and I always find it centering to be surrounded by NYC. For indoor cardio, I vote Ballet Beautiful.

ES: I love our girlfriend time when we do our consignment crawls on Madison. Does that count as cardio?

AH: Haha! I actually read that New Yorker’s walk at a “blitzkrieg pace” and it contributes to our overall fitness.

ES: There’s no good replacement for a natural suntan, but I’m trying hard to convert to PRIV spray tans. It’s so convenient–they come to your home and spray you!!

AH: Less espresso, more water.. with lemon, which supplies added electrolytes.
